Global Entrepreneurship Week Jordan 2014 will kick off on Monday, November 17. The event, organized by Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship (QRCE) at Princess Sumaya University, promotes a culture of entrepreneurship and encourages young people to take on entrepreneurial endeavors. Global Entrepreneurship Week brings together thousands of young people in 150 countries across six continents to generate new ideas and identify new ways to do business. Sponsored by the United States Government’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), the event will include a slate of activities designed to fuel the spirit of entrepreneurship among Jordanian youth, including specialized workshops, lectures and seminars, along with the launch of initiatives and field programs to encourage innovative business practices across Jordan. QRCE’s Executive Director, Dr. Abual Basal , commented: “We are pleased to host the GEW for the sixth year, offering an ideal platform to spotlight Jordan’s nascent culture of entrepreneurship, and celebrate innovators and job creators who launch start-ups that bring ideas to life and drive economic growth. Global Entrepreneurship Week is a great opportunity for participants to explore their potential as self-starters and connect to potential collaborators, mentors and investors.” Dr. Abual Basal noted that the focus of this year’s activities includes microfinance, women’s leadership, and technology entrepreneurship. President of Princess Sumaya University For Technology Professor Mashhoor Al Refai, said: “This initiative seeks to enhance skills and employment opportunities for youth and accelerate them to translate their innovative ideas into successful projects that could create new jobs in Jordan.” “Recognizing the importance of entrepreneurship in pushing the wheel of economic development forward, our support for the event comes as a part of our social responsibilities towards the local community and stems from our administration’s keenness to back activities designed to motivate and nurture the entrepreneurial spirit among young people,” Professor Al Refai added. Stephanie T. Williams, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Amman commented: “This program demonstrates the strong commitment of Jordanians in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to promoting economic vitality and opportunity for all. I applaud the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship and its partners across the country for creating this remarkable program of events to nurture the culture of entrepreneurship here in Jordan.” Global Entrepreneurship Week engages a large number of public and private sector establishments, academic institutions, and non-profit organizations, and targets students, teachers, young entrepreneurs, business leaders, and employees to encourage them to unleash their entrepreneurial ideas and employ them to serve their community.
